is there a God?

to some, this will be a sensitive issue, but something i feel that as a Christian, i cannot merely sit back, knowing i myself am saved, but not reach out to the unsaved ones. so i feel is it my duty to state this point and i hope my unsaved friends (ie. unbelievers) will read this.

is there a God?

from the beginning of mankind, when people were not as knowledgeable as modern man, they worshipped nature, things like thunder or lighting or earthquakes. they knew that there was a force much greater than themselves and they tried to make peace with them by offering them sacrifices or gifts or do things like dance or with songs etc. they recognised the fact that the natural world around us cannot merely just coincidentaly came together to form the earth, the moon, the sun, the stars. all these must have been created by someone with immense power and wisdom.

of course modern man will reason with their limited knowledge that all these are acted upon by the laws of physics or whatever and is not possibly created by a higher force. they use science to reason things, like how earthquakes occur, why we have weather patterns or how the water cycle creates rain. yes it's true, science can explain these but let's stop to wonder, how were they created?

if i showed you a watch, and you see the gears moving, and the hands ticking with precision and then i told you, there is no watchmaker, the whole thing came together by itself overnight. would you believe? any rational being will say no because it's impossible for us to fathom that fact. we would think whoever said the watch came together itself is crazy to say the least.

but then why do we argue that all things natural, the way the trees grow, the way the animals behave, the way the planets are aligned, the way the stars are formed, why our earth is the only planet that can sustain life... why do we argue it all came about as mere coincidence?

the way the gears in a watch move is likened to the way nature works, from the rain, to how they reproduce (no one taught them that by the way), how the earth spins, it's all put together the way the gears in a watch is done.

so if there is a watch maker (we all will agree to that), likewise there must be someone who is of a greater power to bring all these together. no big bang will so nicely throw our planets in the way they are and form about so nicely, not too near the sun, not too far away. and that someone is God. and i can prove it to you.

in the very first verse of the old testament, in the book of genesis, it says "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." the Bible explains the formation of our earth. now i don't know if other religions explain this but Christianity does and rationality was one of the reason why i chose to believe in God. it simply made sense to me!

in the following verses, genesis explains how God created day and night (in verse 3), how he created the lands, the seas and the sky (verse 10), vegetation (verse 11), the concept of time (verse 14), the sun and the moon (verse 16), animals like fishes and birds (verse 20) and finally man (verse 26). All these in 6 days and he rested on the 7th day, which had been set aside as a day of worship (that's why we go to church on sunday).

so you see, there is an explanation for everything that we see in our natural world. the animals, our ecosystem, our universe.. their creation is all explained in the first chapter of genesis.

i think i have typed a lot for this issue already and those reading must start to feel tired at staring at the screen. so i shall continue in another post but if you are interested to know more about my God, feel free to give me a call or leave me a message. i'll be happy to share with you more.

for the unbelievers, i hope this example, although simple, will touch your hearts and make you think about our existence on earth and hopefully stir up some spiritual believe in you.

i hope to type my next post soon about this issue as i continue to learn more about God myself.

thank you for reading.
