germany's pain, spain's gain

finally the EUROs are over. no more being a part time russian, staying awake till unearthly hours.

i'm glad spain won. didn't really want ballack or lehmann to win anything.

cesc's the man! the prince of spain! though liverpool fans might brag about torres yada yada but don't forget he only scored two goals, a pale reflection of his season so far.

but i'm just happy the team i supported through this competition has won.

now the only thing to complete the off-season is for wenger to get villa, senna and silva. yar right. the day he buys these 3 at one shot is the day i get pregnant.

so i'm keeping my hopes down. just one will do. senna would be a great ready made replacement for flamoney. then villa or silva would be a bonus.

so wenger, what you waiting for? get a bigger chequebook man!

singapore transportation nightmare

last night seriously tested my patience.

initially, i thought i was going to be early for caregroup because we started queueing for the bus at 1930 for a journey that would take no more than 30 mins. caregroup started at 2030 and we thought we had some buffer time so that we could take a stroll in instead of having to sprint it.

so we waited for SBS 10. from 1930. at tampines interchange. and the *ugh* bus took like 40 mins to finally arrive!! i was so frustrated in the queue that i gave up before i hit someone beside me or something. there was totally no bus from that time! it was so frustrating!

i left the queue at 2010 in search for a taxi on the main road. and then guess what? as Murphy's law would have it, the bus came 5 mins later. great. even if we caught that bus, we would never have made it in time as the journey definitely needed more than 15 mins. so off to the main road to catch a cab and guess what?

no cab in sight! on a main road no less!!

if the devil wanted to keep me away from caregroup, he was certainly putting in extra effort to stop me. i and jo shifted our position to another main road and then guess what? empty cabs came by the location we were at minutes ago and instead of going straight towards us, they made a left turn.

grrr...

we waited till like 2045 before we managed to get a cab. friggin half hour!!

I WASTED ONE HOUR OF MY PRECIOUS LIFE WAITING FOR DAMN TRANSPORTATION!!

and the government is wondering why people refuse to give up our cars so easily!

Transport Minister, please, to fully rectify the problem, you got to experience it. try commuting via public transport for a month. i dare you.

it's so pathetic that i have to wait 45 mins for a single bus, oh and guess what, the next bus after the one we missed came 10 mins later. AND SBS WONDERS WHY THEY HAVE BUNCHING!!

instead of trying to solve the bunching problem, they instead come up with an ad campaign that says "sometimes, 2 of a kind is a good thing"

what do you want your "s" to stand for? Sporadic? Shambolic? or other degrading terms that start with S and have 6 letters?

Clean up your act before increasing our bus fares in October yet again!

Authentic Arsenal Shirt for Sale

Hey guys,

I just bought this authentic Arsenal 92/94 jersey but it turned out too large for me. So i'm looking to sell it at the price I bought which is S$70 so that I can buy a more fitting one.

If you are interested please let me know. Meet up is possible if you want to save on mailing.

The size is large, 42"-44" from pit to pit. Condition is near mint except for some odd marks and bobbles normally found in old shirts. This shirt is nearly 15 years old by the way but still in very good condition. Logo and Crest in very good condition.

A must have for die hard gooners!!

Here are some pics.

long day

the day when i have so many activities lined up, is the day it had to rain to make it soooooooo cuddly to just sleep in and waste the morning away.

0945

even the alarm clock couldn't wake me and i had to take a cab with jo down to church which we managed to reach in time. staying awake was a challenge as i had heavy eyelids from last night. not that i watched russia's destruction of holland but i just wanted to sleep in more. the irony was that i went to bed earlier but still felt like i could do with more sleep.

1330

and with church over, we had to immediately go off to attend a solemnisation ceremony of jo's friends at carribean. it's the second time we had to go there to attend a solemnisation but this time, the air con broke down! of all the day! but thank god it wasn't such a hot day because of the rain so it was still bearable. just pity the guys in their blazers.

1630

rushed back for an hour of sleep but the only hour where i could get rest was the hour my neighbour upstairs decided to drill and hammer some stuff on the wall. grr.. more heavy eyelids.

1800

so without much sleep, i had to attend jo's dad's birthday dinner. thank god for my small eyes as they wouldn't know even if i was asleep. the dinner was not too bad, at ding tai fung though i'm not really keen on the food there. expensive and not as tasty. even her dad seems to agree with me. but it was time well spent together getting to know my future in laws better.

1930

and immediately after filling ourselves with dim sum, we had to rush off to siwei's birthday party. how to lose weight like that?? eat eat eat! though i must say his cake is very interesting. i've never seen a cake designed in the shape of a lady wearing bikini before. the toes bought him a 1994/1996 arsenal home jersey which he really likes a lot. wear it with pride, dude! so awhile after the traditional cake fight and taking what seems like an eternity of pictures, we went home.
but the day wasn't over yet.

0245

went to fetch jo again around 2 to watch the match between spain and italy. we were dead tired and after watching the past few matches, i would have thought spain would be able to keep us awake. but no. italy, the masters of blockade football, decided to put up a bore of a show, denying spain time and time again. how i hate italy. if they had gone through, i would have thought it was injustice of the greatest degree. but thank god they didn't. so out of the 2 teams i was watching out for, only 1 remains. hope they go on to win it.

0600

after sending jo back, my mind was already dead tired. finding a parking lot was only made more difficult with the upgrading equipment taking up precious lots but thank god i managed to find one. after which, i just fell flat.

rt

it's that time of the year where i earn $1.23 an hour to use a SAF gym for 8 weeks.

wonderful deal right? get paid to use a gym? brilliant.

and i get to use it up to 3 times a week too! on top of that, there will be experts who will dish out tips on how to lead a healthy lifestyle.

which i am gonna need.

dang i've gained weight. i'm back to pre-NS levels which is not good at all. moreover i'm gonna emcee a wedding in november and i better be in shape! i cannot go on living in denial trying to convince people that i'm undertall not overweight.

so i got to lose 18kg by nov 22 which is like 4 months away? if not i won't be able to fit into the suit i bought a year ago.

come on!! let these motivate me!! ugh!!

the bright side is i found out what the main problem is.

below is what one couple ate:

and then here's what we ate:

and i'm so proud i managed to eat smaller meals today like what the expert suggested so hopefully it'll be a habit soon enough.

Dear Mr Wenger

I shall keep this short and sweet.

If you are not blind, sign David Villa now.
4 goals in 2 matches, starring a pivotal role in both victories can't be wrong!

SIGN HIM!!

Gooner till I die,
Derrick

Dear Mr Wenger, again

If i recalled correctly, at last mention, you said you'd make a new exciting signing within 3 weeks before the start of the European championship that would make the gooners drool in awe. That was 6 weeks ago.

And now, 6 weeks later, into the second round of the championships, what do we have? Oh sure, we have Vela back, a signing we made 3 years ago. Aaron Ramsey? Your fetish for young boys is insatiable. And whatever happened to Samir Nasir? Holding out for more money yet again?

With past experiences with Cashely Cole and the lastest being with Mathieu Flamoney, do we really need another player that's just after a bigger pay cheque?

Tell you what, if you want cheap and within your tight wage budget, let me recommend another Nasir.

Nasri Nasir.

Let me know if you want him yeah? Free transfer too! Saves you money! Call me!

Regards,
Derrick

Dear Mr Wenger

Dear Mr Wenger,

I hope you were busy signing your cheque book to Valencia while at the stadium watching Spain play Russia. You might have noticed (I'm sure you would) that Villa scored a hat trick and that your only star player left in the current Arsenal squad, Cesc Fabregas, wants to play with Villa in the Arsenal team.

So yeah, sign that cheque now. What's £20M to appease millions of Arsenal fans worldwide?

Gooner till I die,
Derrick Poh

P/S: If it's not too much to ask, try to sign Torres too. I know he's a long shot and a Liverpoop player etc etc yada yada yada but he's pure talent. Imagine, Torres, Cesc and Villa. ooooo.. bring on the Spanish Invasion!!

arsenal till i die

Dear Arsène Wenger,

I'm feel so sinful and I seek your forgiveness. I went to attend a Man Utd function. I know I shouldn't have but it's been such a long time since you held that trophy. And moreover it was a good cause, with proceeds going to the Sichuan earthquake fund. So i decided to go down on Monday to have my picture taken with the trophy. I wanted to wear my Arsenal Kit but my safety was a factor to consider. It was a Man Utd function after all, and with all those red devils fans all around, who knows what will happen?

But i tried to do you proud, I was hoping to topple the trophy that it might break and it so nearly happened but it just merely wobbled wobbled without toppling, watched by so many people around with mouth wide open. a soundless scream.

So please win it next season ok, Arsène? I wanna take another pic this time with Fabregas in the backdrop. Please?

Gooner till I die,
Derrick

stuffed with stuffs and others stuffings

it's been quite a while the toes met up and with my exams finally over, i could spend a whole evening out with that last friday. it was a great time of laughter and joy, teasing each other (mostly xingdi), dreaming of plans to share the same condo unit, kevin+baba+his gf+ eugene and jeff can drop by in the middle of the night if need be, as well as talking about our significant others. or rather, the ones of those who weren't there. we even came up with the idea of starting a jogging group to jog around pasir ris park, though i really wonder when this will begin.

just realised it was really a long time since we last met up as there was so much to laugh and talk about. and because coffee just wasn't enough for an occasion like this, we decided to go all the way to the airport for popeyes!

on a normal day, i would be crazy to do it. but since we hadn't seen each other for a long while, we needed food. so it was off to popeyes after some convincing for one of us who didn't want to go because he's afraid of something which would sound really silly if i said it out here so i shall spare him.

and then it happened...

i wasn't really hungry or anything but the food looked like really good and yeah.. things happen. the next thing, i lost control, sauce was all over and we ordered extra portions.

gosh. i ate so much, the toes were so stunned at me. it was like ba zhang, part II! bigger and better!

i must cut down. i realise i've been spending a lot on food. way too much. shall try this new idea where i just eat a tiny portion that will not fill me. see how it works. if that fails, at least i have my new jogging mates.

journey mercy

whoo!

ok, sent out my first résumé earlier today. Lord please grant it urm.... journey mercy?

printed the cover letter 7 times to make sure it was perfect and then tried to send it out through the online application but a script error stopped me.

i trust nothing more that good old snail mail.

saw another job that i like. at URA. this one as a planner. a town planner. dreeeeaaam job II. but i think my results are crap. but pray i get it. dang i wished i studied harder. didn't expect the regret to start just after 2 days of ending school.

basically i have derived two equations that i should bear in mind when considering whether or not to apply for a job.

it goes something like this:

send = got chance
no send = no chance

so yeah, all future decisions will be based on those 2 equations.

anyway, sub plot, there is a very persistent and pushy insurance agent who insists that i join him so i can earn big bucks. he thinks money is the only deciding factor in a job, and that the people who believe in job satisfaction are sissies.

i hear evil every time your voice comes on my phone. what's so bad about working for the government anyway, mr persistent pushy insurance agent? at least i get a decent if not spectacular rise bowl for starters.

"the love of money is the root of all evil."
thank god i'm not like you.

so anyhow just keep me in prayers for my job application to LTA. and i think i'll work on the URA one soon.

june the third

YES !!!

it's over!! no more exams!! and i finally graduate!! of course the thing is, i need to get myself signed up for this concept called work, in which i sell my time in exchange for money so i can support myself and my future family.
but that can wait. at least a week i think. just need to relax after nearly 2 months of studying and some nervous breakdowns.

strangely enough, my family thinks i seldom study.

well like they say, when i work, nobody cares. when i rest, everybody stares.

anyway watched the game between singapore and uzbekistan and to say it was a stunning match is an understatement.

10 goals in all, kallang got raped 7 times by the visitors but i'm still quite proud that despite losing by such a large scoreline (7-3) and as well as having to watch the most comical defending i have ever seen in international football ever, the fans still stood and cheered their team on right to the very end.

which was really amazing, cos singaporeans are mostly attracted to success. like the ASEAN Cup, not many bothered about it until we had a decent chance of winning the title. then out of nowhere, 55,000 fans appear, as if it was National Day. if only we had the culture of singing songs instead of that crude cheer after 9 blasts of the air horn. that would complete the magic.
but this time it was different. we stood nearly no chance of winning against the better team yet 28,000 fans still turned up!

back to the team. the defending, to put it mildly, is frigging, bloody, terribly, hideously, atrociously shambolic. it was as if the back 4 and lionel lewis took turns to be the clowns of the day making unforgivable individual errors.

when was the last time you ever saw someone score from a corner kick? lionel was a disgrace! what were you thinking about? man city? ha! my toes tickle in endless laughter.

dun even mention the other 4 mistakes the defenders took turns making. a slip at the crucial moment, fantastic ball watching skills, sloth-like pace, the only one who came out with any form of credibility was noh rahman. horrid horrid horrid.
the only shining light perhaps is that we finally managed to score. 3 in fact! i wished dan bennett's shot had gone in instead of hit the post. that would have been a marvelous goal!

but perhaps it was destined. i mean, they were taller than us, they had better skills, they played in better leagues, heck, even their flag is better than ours!

more stars! more stripes! and more colours too! even their crescent is fatter!

Sleepless in Tampines

Dear Lord,

please grant me rest, for i have laboured for my exams, dear Lord.
I don't know why i'm finding it so hard to get some rest. I didn't fall asleep in the train as usual, nor did i fall asleep during the church service. And amazingly so when the topic covered today was the minor prophets which is not very interesting (or so i thought) to me.

why Lord? i went to bed around 1, rolled till 3:30 the night before before being able to get any sort of rest but had to wake at 730 in order to make it to church on time.

my body is drained by somehow my mind is awake when i lay on my bed trying to get some shut eye. please grant me some rest oh Lord, even if it's just 15 mins.

i have 3 chapters more to cover before i can call it a day, but without that power nap, i'm really running on reserves. let me lean on You as i cover what i've set out to do.

and then let me rest a good uninterrupted sleep, with no whistling or singing from my family members in the middle of the night and no moronic kids playing at the playground at 430am.

just let me rest, Jesus.

amen.
