baptism of fire

woah

i didn't realise i haven't blogged in such a long time

have been really busy with work.

if it isn't teaching, it's preparing the logistics and doing sales canvassing.

hope i can do well to clinch my first deal. got a few leads to work on but like i always believe, anticipation has the habit to set you up for disappointment.

so best to go into any presentation without any expectations, the same attitude that got me through while i was a property agent.

anyway got hooked onto this song today. it's a song i've quite like for about half a year now, just wanna share it with my readers (if there are still any after the lack of updates)

i love the whole world

i feel like a school kid again

oh man, i'm so sorry for not being able to update recently because (in the words of my manager), it has been a mad and sickly week!

there was almost a programme every other day and it was really crazy. i felt like a school kids again, having to wake up at 5-6am every morning, only crazier because the schools i have to go to are no where near my home!

but i guess it's a fun job. i have met a lot of school children already and there are all sorts -- from the super guai, to the super jump-around-even-though-i've-broken-both-legs kind, and to the i-want-you-to-notice-me-so-i-shall-repeatedly-ask-questions-at-every-chance-i-get kind and last but not least the i-like-talking-nose-to-nose-with-you-especially-when-i'm-sweaty.

yeah i kid you not on the last one. there was this one kid from the lower spectrum who insists on talking with his nose pressing against mine. gao suggested i should wear sharp pencils on my chest so that i can stab him when he comes near.

but though my plan is to get to know more of them, and hopefully share with them about God in time, there are really some pupils which i can't seem to get a response out of.

any idea what i could do to get them to participate? i feel so bad as if i wasted their afternoon and bored them to death.

overall, i still enjoy this job quite a lot. the paperwork and lesson preparation is maddening though. absolute crazy. and because i felt that the graphics could be better, my marketing knowledge kicked into gear and i put in some effort to learn photo editing (a word to describe my skills is "crap"), just so i can spruce it up abit.

so all in all, busy busy busy but thank god i can fit in well with my colleagues.

just pray that i can keep the stress under check. i don't do well under stress, and i admit, i don't do well with a lack of sleep either, unlike my brother who can go 24 hours of working (to rush WCG).

365 days later

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY MY PRINCESS!!

it's finally here, 365 days later, and we had a lot of fun celebrating our anniversary.

we kick started our anniversary celebrations with a challenge of table soccer! And the one we played is really high tech, with corner kicks and everything. very interesting game and what's more it's free!! but in order for it to remain unnoticed, i have to keep mum about where it is so that people won't find it and we can have it all to ourselves the next time we decide to have a game.

then after settling some of the stuff for my Myanmar trip later this year, we set off for the Singapore flyer in the evening and had a very nice "flight" to view the pretty skyline of Singapore. the timing was perfect as we could see quite far into the distance, seeing the endless apartment blocks and the beautiful city buildings.

i have no idea what the football pitch was doing in the middle of Marina Bay but i'll be thrilled if they had some sort of match there.

but as you can see, the view was simply breathtaking though the the commentary could be improved especially when they said "you're on top of the world" when we reached the summit of the flyer, which was so far from the truth. 165m?? top of the world??? (little trivial, Bt Timah hill is 164m, just a metre shorter than the flyer.)

for dinner, we ate at a very interesting restaurant called Ma Maison at Central.

and as you can tell from my satisfied rub on my tummy, it was a very good meal. very innovative too cos for the omu rice that we ate, it wasn't the normal fried egg covering, but it was a scrambled egg covering instead! so yeah, thumbs up to that!

well, it's only the first of many years to come. wish that with each celebration, we'll be closer and that our celebrations will be more enjoyable too!

Taiwan 2009!

Go Lewis Hamilton!!

The Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo poured scorn on last Sunday's Singapore grand prix, calling the track a "circus" and describing the use of the safety car as humiliating for Formula One.

Felipe Massa, Ferrari's world title contender, suffered from a bungled pit stop that helped give Lewis Hamilton a seven-point lead in the drivers' championship while the faltering world champion, Kimi Raikkonen, crashed in formula one's first night race.

"When we race on tracks which should be used for the circus, anything can happen including the spectacle of the safety car," Montezemolo said. "All this is humiliating for F1 and it is an aspect I want to talk about with the other teams."

Singapore saw two safety car interventions, the first of which turned the race and contributed to the Spaniard Fernando Alonso's unexpected victory for Renault. Montezemolo, appointed recently as the first chairman of the Formula One Teams Association, said before the race that street circuits and the lack of overtaking opportunities were not the right way forward for the sport.

Raikkonen is out of contention for the title but Montezemolo said the Finn still had a role to play. "I expect Raikkonen to show he is world champion in the remaining races, to help Massa, to race for the good of the team and to finish in front of McLaren," he said. The president also backed the mechanics who gave Massa the green light during a pit stop despite the fuel hose still being attached to the car as he sped away.

"We have extraordinary mechanics who on other occasions have swung results our way. We must stay close to each other because Ferrari are always world champions and are still in the running to win," Montezemolo added. ~Reuters

Well Mr Montezzesalhemolomolo, if the Marina Bay Circuit was indeed a circus like you said it was, then your Ferrari team members must be the clowns.

i went to the kitchen to get a drink

but i came back with a bird instead!!

the other birds had been very noisy the past hour or so. was wondering why they were especially loud today but the moment i stepped in the kitchen, i realised why.

on the window ledge was a stray bird and it was obviously hungry enough to fly so high just to get some papaya. it stood on the ledge, near the cage, but never wandering near enough to get a bite at the papaya in the other bird's cage. so i and my mum set a trap with a papaya instead and walking very gingerly, i placed it on the ledge, 20cm away from the bird.

i was very surprised it didn't fly away and i thought to myself, someone must have let it free for some reason.

soon enough, it walked up to the trap, explored it a bit by poking into the sides to try to get the papaya but its beak wasn't long enough. desperate it climbed up into the trap and into it, triggering the mechanism which snapped shut the trap.

bingo! my first ever catch! and it was so hungry after being released that it just kept eating the papaya! poor thing.

so after transferring it to a bigger cage and placing fresh papaya in, the real show begun.

the two males were so eager to fight for the attention of the new bird (i think it's female yet it could be male too!) that when i accidentally moved the cage too close to the other, they squared off and one managed to rip off a couple of the feathers of the other birds!

it's fierce man! they never done it before. love drives everyone/thing crazy.

so now everything's settled. the males will not stop trying to get the attention of the new bird for quite a few days. so i expect lots of excess chirpings and flirtings, showing off all the dances move that they have to the suspected female (yes birds do dance).

it'll be exciting to study the new bird, the characteristics, likes and dislikes, and other idiosyncrasies like sleeping pattern, bathing preference.

now i leave you with a video of the two male birds fighting for the attention of the new bird

i survived a japanese gameshow!

man i have never laughed so hard, ever at a game show.

i mean, how could i ever when all the crap that mediocre productions can come up with is pyramid game (darryl david anyone?) and some other lame national science champion thing.

so when i managed to catch i survived a japanese gameshow, in which it was a gameshow within a gameshow (you got to watch it to understand), it left me in absolute stitches!

here's how it works.

the show follows ten Americans, who leave the United States for Japan where they compete in a Japanese style game show. The winner takes home $250,000 after surviving what seems like an eternity of mocking from the audience as they go through some of the craziest obstacles ever imagined by man.

in the first episode, two teams were made to compete against each other, and the challenge they faced was to run with a bowl like hat on top of their head, which contains a mochii. now, running on stable ground is easy but what they have to run on, is a treadmill! CAN YOU IMAGINE XINGDI ON THIS GAME SHOW?!? I CAN!! So anyway, these people have to run on a treadmill with a mochii on their head and someone standing at the start of the treadmill would have to eat it off from their bowl like headgear.

Once done, the eater would sound the buzzer and the runner would have to let himself get dragged off the treadmill into a pit of flour! It's like Xingdi's Ultimate Fantasy!!

So between the teams, the one who eats the most wins.

Here's a snippet from youtube

It's hilarious I tell you! Go find it off youtube, or catch it on Channel 5, 8pm Thursdays.

I laughed standing up, sitting down, curled up on the sofa. The obstacles are just crazy! The second one required contestants to dress as a fly and slap themselves on a cardboard windscreen complete with human drawings. On them is a sticky green goo which splatters everywhere upon impact. It's madness I tell you.

I can imagine the producer's brainstorming session.

"You know guys, I see people cheering, clapping loudly. I see hands slapping against each other, except that they aren't real hands, but made with people instead! (imagine two contestants, fitted with a hand shaped costume, with the fingers above their head, having to clap with another similarily dressed contestant)"

or

"You know, I envision a hot dog, with the biggest buns ever made, except they aren't real suasages in them, it's made with people instead!. and then they add mastard, and chilli, and then they dropped the hot dog on the ground"

Sick. But i like it!

Here's how the yellow penguins fared:
